Instrumentation specialist Endress+Hauser has released its Prosonic S ultrasonic level measurement device following continuous development aimed at further increasing the company's stronghold in this field. FMU90 offers a tried and tested measurement method that combines the latest available technologies to reach new levels of performance.
Ultrasonics have been used in liquids and bulk solids as a tried and tested measurement method since 1969. Installed in more than 400,000 measuring points world-wide, non-contact level measurement by ultrasonic pulses from Endress+Hauser has captured a firm place in process automation.
Prosonic S consists of the FMU90 transmitter and the FDU9x sensor, which may be remotely mounted at a distance of up to 300 m. Two housing variants are available. On the one hand, the robust and weatherproof field housing for onsite assembly, on the other hand the top-hat rail housing for space-saving assembly in control cabinets. A separate display for installation in control panels is offered as an option.
It is possible to continue using existing FDU8x sensors. The new sensors of the FDU9x line, however, feature improved properties in relation to blocking distance, material, temperature and measuring range. Hermetically welded sensors are available for liquid applications and safeguard smooth operation in aggressive media, while the food industry can opt for completely welded stainless steel sensors. The sensors for bulk solid applications are suitable for a maximum measuring range of 70 m (230 feet). With optional ATEX approval, they are perfectly suited to applications in hazardous areas.
Easy wiring by means of plug-in terminals and automatic recognition of the connected sensor simplifies commissioning substantially and prevents confusion during installation. Prosonic S is operated either via the tried and tested ToF Tool operating software which is being used in many instruments and supplied free of charge, or at the illuminated multiline onsite display. The operator is guided step by step, which makes both the operation and commissioning fast and safe. If required, the instrument shows the signal progression as an envelope curve on the instrument display, thus permitting simple and fast diagnosis.
Be it in liquids or bulk solids, Prosonic S is a versatile level measuring instrument which can be adapted to individual requirements, from level and volume measurement in tanks and silos through to flow measurement in open channels and the control of pumps, draw works and trash screens.
